Icelandic Music Awards 2024

I am proud and thankful for two nominations at the Icelandic Music Awards.

The title composition for my recent album, An Icelander at Uluwatu Temple, was chosen as the best composition this year.

Thanks to the incredible musicians of The Reykjavik Big Band and the wonderful engineering of Hafþór Karlsson (Haffi Tempo)

New album: An Icelander at Uluwatu Temple - Reykjavik Big Band plays new music by Stefán S. Stefánsson

An Icelander at Uluwatu Temple An icelander at uluwatu temple

Today the album An Icelander at Uluwatu Temple is released, which contains the works of Stefán S. Stefánsson for big band, performed by the Icelandic Reykjavik Big Band. This album is number two in the “Icelander” trilogy, whereas number one was the album “An Icelander at Alhambra Palace”, which won the Icelandic Music Award 2015.

The album's title has its roots in Stefan’s travels to Indonesia, where you can find the wonderful Uluwatu temple on the edge of a cliff, on the beautiful coast of the Indian Ocean.

Most of the works are new, but there are also some older works that Stefán rewrote for this edition. The excellent performance of members of the Reykjavik Big Band and the high-quality recordings of Hafþór Karlsson gave this the life it needed and here is the result. The album can be found here in a link, but it can also be accessed on all the main streaming sites of the World Wide Web.

Performing with the Reykjavik Big Band at the 2023 Icelandic Music Awards

I was honored and pleased to conduct my colleagues and friends in the Reykjavík Big Band at the Icelandic Music Awards last night. We performed my piece of mine: Hokkaido, which will be recorded with other material by the Reykjavík Big Band this spring.
Nuclear powerhouses Phil Doyle and Sigurður Flosason almost burst with energy in great solos!
And it didn't hurt that the Reykjavík Ensemble won the Icelandic Music Award as the performer of the year in the jazz music category. Congratulations to Reykjavík's Big Band and congratulations to Icelandic music!
